Inspired by their travels, Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 by best friends Carol Lim and Humberto Leon as a way to showcase a selection of brands from around the world all in one place. Quickly making a name for itself thanks to its diverse array of never-before-seen garments, Opening Ceremony has gone on to grow exponentially, introducing not only a successful array of in-house collections but a string of prolific collaborations with notorious names in the industry.

Lifting their name from the modern-day Olympic Games in an ode to its ability to unite various cultures, the brand created what many regard as their first smash hit with the help of Humberto's mother, introducing the Opening Ceremony diamond hoodie in just their first year of operation. Limited in number, the sweat inspired by the pair's time in Californian sold out within its first week, setting a precedent of the big things which were to come.

To this day Opening Ceremony clothing is known for its bold and unapologetic visuals, high-quality fabrication, and far-reaching references. Boasting support from a neverending list of celebrity figures, the New York-based label has partnered with everyone from Vans and Maison Margiela to adidas and Polo Ralph Lauren, presenting new spins on traditional classics at their larger-than-life runway shows.
